Cultural and thematic tours in Moldova

Moldova is a small country, but with a rich historical-cultural heritage, traditions preserved with holiness, and places worth exploring and admiring. Whether you are a citizen of the Republic of Moldova or a visitor from abroad, we are sure that this broken corner of heaven arouses the curiosity and interest of every mortal. Starting from the country’s past, first being part of greater Romania, but after a part of the USSR, Soviet times are still felt in the territory of the Republic of Moldova, due to the historical monuments remaining from those times.

From museums, theaters, and auditoriums to historical monuments, churches, and monasteries, you can discover Moldovan traditions and culture.

1. The wooden church “Assumption of the Virgin” – the oldest wooden church, modest but unique, made of oak trees of the Codrilor of Moldova, since 1642. Here are preserved various icons dating from the 18th century, which tell the history of this architectural monument. It is a quiet place, even if it is located in Chisinau. Here the noise and the traffic of the city do not penetrate, because you can only hear the services held in Romanian and Slavonic languages, which will allow you to get spiritually charged.

2. Tipova Cave Monastery – the largest cave monastery in Europe and a true wealth of our country, located on the right bank of the Dniester River. It is a tourist destination that will amaze you with its view, and by visiting the waterfalls and exploring the steep gorge, you can detach yourself from the daily routine and enjoy an active rest in nature, discovering the historical-cultural heritage of the country.

3. Duruitoarea Veche Gorge – a true monument of nature, with geological and paleontological character, located in the eastern part of the village Duruitoarea, on the left bank of the Ciuhur River. This place will give you a fascinating view, but also the opportunity to camp in a tent and meet the sunset and sunrise, from the height.

4. Japca Monastery – the only holy place that remained functional in the Soviet period, located on the bank of the Dniester River, in the village of Japca, Floresti district. It is considered one of the oldest monasteries in Moldova, existing since the 17th century. This destination impresses with its entire architectural ensemble, but also an old cave church, which is near it, from where you can admire the tranquility and nature, being in the most appropriate angle.

5. Curchi Monastery – one of the most important and valuable architectural monuments in Moldova, located in the village of Curchi, Orhei district. This holy place conveys a unique, peaceful, and peaceful aura. On the territory of the monastery, visitors can admire several churches built over the years, but the most special remains be the main church of the monastery “Nativity of the Mother of God”, inspired by the Church of St. Andrew in Kyiv, built in baroque style.

6. “Alexandr Pushkin” House-Museum – an important museum and monument of architecture and national history, the place where, for three years, in Bessarabia, the famous Alexandr Sergeevich Pushkin wrote and created a large number of poems. Located right in Chisinau, this house museum tells about the period of the late poet’s stay in our country, after he was expelled from Russia. Also here visitors can see paintings, sculptures, engravings, and also some publications of works written by Alexandr Sergeevici Pushkin, in Chisinau.

7. National Museum of History of Moldova – one of the most important museum institutions in the Republic of Moldova, located right in the center of the capital. In front of the museum is installed a copy of the statue of Lupoaicei, given by the municipality of Rome, in the first years after the Union of Bessarabia and Bukovina with Romania. The museum impresses with its exhibition halls, having over 260 thousand exhibits related to the history and culture of Moldova, from antiquity until today.

8. National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History – the first museum of the Republic of Moldova, founded in 1889, after the initiative of Baron Alexandru Stuart. Here visitors can discover the study of the nature and culture of the Republic of Moldova, as the museum has various ethnographic, geological, paleontological, archaeological, zoological, archaeological, and cultural collections, entomological and numistic.

9. Manuc Bey Mansion – an exceptional historical-architectural complex, located in the central-western part of the country, in Hincesti. This complex includes various edifices: Manuc’s Palace, the Old House, the Hunting Castle, the Countess building, and the Watchtower. The museum was founded at the beginning of the 19th century, at the initiative of a merchant of Armenian origin, under the rule of the Tsarist. Manuc Bey Mansion impresses visually with its French style, and visitors can admire the elegance of the furniture, the spirit of old age, and the particularly beautiful architecture.

10. The “Constantin Brancusi” Exhibition Center – the largest and most important art exhibition center in the Republic of Moldova, founded in 1990. The center includes two exhibition halls and a gallery salon, where the most representative works of Moldovan artists are exhibited. Here visitors can admire and get acquainted with various: Paintings, sculptures, graphic works, art installations, and decorative and digital art.
